Josef Busuttil (MBA (Henley), Dip. M MCIM, FCICM)

Josef was involved in the setting up of the Malta Association of Credit Management (MACM – and is the Director of MACM. He has been a member of the Council of FECMA since May 2003. After twelve years occupying the role of FECMA Vice President, Josef was elected President of FECMA in November 2016.

Josef is an intuitive lecturer and speaker, specialising in trade credit management strategies that enable the credit function to gain and sustain competitive advantage in the market, whilst ensuring sound cash flow and long-term profit. He delivers in-house training and lectures for organised groups. Josef contributed to a number of training programmes and seminars organised by highly reputable international organisations and institutions, such as The European Commission, in a number of countries, including Antwerp, Berlin, Bucharest, Dubai, Dublin, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, London, Madrid, Malta, Mexico City, Moscow, Paris, and Vilnius. Josef is a regular contributor of business articles to the international business press.

Rudy Aernoudt holds masters in Economy, Philosophy and European economics. He hasserved as Chief of Staff at European, federal and regional (Flanders and Wallonia) level.Besides he was consecutively Secretary-General of the Department of Economics andinnovation, director-general of One laptop per child, a spin-off of MIT, and ChiefEconomist at the European commission, where he is dealing with financing issues,industrial, taxation and space policy. He is also professor corporate finance and enterprisepolicy at the Universities of Ghent and Nancy; curator of TEDxBrussels; columnist andauthor of several books and papers on politics and economics.

Dr. Michael Sauter is Managing Partner / Founder of Brainbirds GmbH.He assumed various management roles as director, managing director and executive in theconsulting and software businesses, e.g. at Bertelsmann / webmiles, SapientNitro, and SHSVIVEON.His current focus is on leadership, organisation development, and change management.Michael graduated from the University of Munich (Germany), the London School ofEconomics (UK), and the Arizona State University (USA). He is a speaker at internationalconferences and author in the fields of innovation management, digital marketing / e-commerce, and big data / analytics.

Elena Evplova graduated from State University of Management (Russia) in 2010 and started her way as credit professional from developing Accounts Receivable function in Russianentity of French pharm company IPSEN, and then grown into Credit control team leader inNike Russia. As of May 2015 Elena is performing as Credit Manager of Kaspersky Lab, creating credit culture, developing credit policy and global processes. Elena is a CertifiedInternational Credit Professional and a member of Russian Institute of Credit Management.

Phil Rice

Involved in credit all of his working life, Phil has wide ranging experience in a many  sectors such as Construction, Builders and Plumbers Merchants, Vehicle Leasing, Tyres, Consultancy, Window Door and Roof Manufacture, Plastics and has also held positions at NatWest Bank and Close Bros Merchant Bank. He specialises in turnaround situations developing under performing  teams and businesses.
Currently Head of Credit with Aggregate Industries Europe and based at their Leicester Shared Service Centre. Under his guidance Aggregates have held CICM Q since 2010 and in 2014 were awarded CICM Centre of Excellence Status.  More recently he initiated the Aggregate Industries Credit Academy enrolling two office based apprentices one of whom is the first apprentice to sign on the CICM trial blazer scheme.
Aggregates won Newcomer of the Year 2014, Employer of the Year 2015 and Project of the Year 2016 and 2017 at the CICM British Credit Awards. They are the only company to have won awards in four consecutive years.
Phil also sits on the CICM Advisory Council.

Stephan Glismann-Bringmann

Stephan Glismann-Bringmann is a computer engineer and can refer to over 15 years of experience in in International Credit Risk & Fraud Management. As Director Sales & Marketing and Head of Business Development at SHS VIVEON he was responsible for Credit Risk & Fraud Management in D-A-CH, UK, Russia. Before that he held different management positions at Experian and EDIT and supported clients coming from finance, e-commerce and telecom industry. Stephan Glismann-Bringmann joined CRIF in 2016 as Director of CREDITY Management Solutions, helping clients to improve their international credit management. 

Prof. Ivan Grixti

Dr Ivan Grixti PhD, MA (Lanc), BA (Hons) Accountancy, MCIArb, FAIA(Acad), FIA, CPA is a full time academic member of staff within the Accountancy Department at the University of Malta. He lectures in Financial Accounting and IT Applications for Accountants on the under-graduate B.Comcourse as well as the B.Accountancy (Hons) degree programme besides supervising a number of dissertation students within the faculty. He has contributed to the official journal of the Malta Institute of Accountants and has conducted a variety of seminars as part of the CPE Programme. For over 15 years,he held the post of financial controller of the University’s commercial arm which provided him with invaluable practical experience. He is also a sole practitioner on a part-time basis and has assisted the VAT Department on carrying out a number of investigations.

In December 2014 he was awarded the Ph.D. degree from the University of Southampton. Given that his main research area is financial accounting, his doctoral thesis was dedicated to discovering how the change in the accounting paradigm from Historical Cost Accounting to Fair Value Measurement affected the Maltese scenario.

Currently he sits on the council of the Malta Institute of Accountants. He is also a director on a number of government related entities, namely, the Housing Authority, as well as the newly established LandsAuthority. Recently, also he has been nominated by the Rector of the University to represent it on the Academy for Disciplined Forces.

Dr Grixti is heavily involved in the local religious and civil life. He was President of the King’s OwnBand for several years and currently he is the treasurer of the Arch-confraternity of the Blessed Crucifixin Valletta, which is responsible for the organisation of the Good Friday procession. More recently he has been appointed as a member of the audit committee of the archdiocese of Malta by H.G. Mons Paul Cremona O.P.

Philip King (FCICM)

Philip has been the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management, the largest credit management association in Europe, since 2006.  Prior to that, he had 26 years practical experience in trade, consumer, and international credit management.

He is widely recognised in the UK and internationally as an expert and speaker on good business practice and, in particular cash-flow and credit management for businesses of all sizes.  Philip is the author of the Managing Cashflow Guides which were produced for the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and of which there have now been over 550,000 downloads.

In addition to leading the Chartered Institute of Credit Management in its work to raise the profile and professionalism of credit management, Philip sits on a number of industry and UK government-led bodies, co-chairs the Prompt Payment Code Advisory Board and a member of the Joint Insolvency Committee.  The Chartered Institute of Credit Management also administers the Prompt Payment Code for BEIS, and works closely with it in supporting the development of late payment and enterprise policy.

Ludo Theunissen
Ludo Theunissen holds degrees in engineering (Ghent University) and Management (Vlerick Business School).

In his career he combined academic and business assignments.

He has worked for large multinational organizations (Volkswagen, Unisys) as well as for SME’s in Belgium and abroad.

He is founder and president of the Instituut voor Kredietmanagement, the Belgian association for Credit managers, and an active member of the FECMA council.

He is professor at Ghent University and has also been active as a professor at Vlerick Business School, Antwerp Management School and the Belgian Royal Military Academy.

He is active as a consultant and lecturer in different countries on topics such as Financial Statement Analysis, Credit Management, Investment analysis.

James West

I am an experienced Director and Consultant with over 15 years experience designing and delivering projects across Europe.  For the past 6 years I have specialised in the application of behavioural science to a wide range of clients in Debt Management, Banking, Utilities and the NHS.  This talk will focus on how simple, often costless solutions can have huge impacts for customers and staff.

Alberto Cotti

I started my career as an auditor with KPMG until end of 1990 when I moved to National Semiconductor as Credit Assistant. In 1992 I moved on to Polaroid as Credit Controller and then in 1993 to Warner Lambert as Credit Manager for the confectionary business. In 1997, I joined Gianni Versace as Credit Controller until 2002 when I moved to Donna Karan Italy where I am still the Senior Credit Director for Europe.

I joined A.C.M.I in 2000 as a member and in 2010 I took the responsibility of a group focusing on the RTW and Accessories business. In recent years, I formed part of the Steering Committee and has been elected General Secretary of the association.

Jacques Vincken

Jacques Vincken, Shell Downstream Credit Manager Europe & Africa, Global Retail and Global Chemicals, has worked in the Finance function of Shell for 34 years in various businesses (Upstream, Chemicals, Downstream), has extensive experience in Commercial Finance and is a true Credit professional. He has had overseas assignments in various Shell divisions and companies. He has successfully standardized the Credit Management processes of Shell Chemicals and Downstream on a global basis, managed to dramatically decrease the working capital and made the organisation a cash conscious environment throughout. He set up Credit Strategies that haven proven to be very successful, whether going through various crises with minimum bad debt, or supporting growth in emerging markets like China and Russia. He has taken the organization on exciting journeys with, his “EU Hunt for Cash”, and projects like “Credit Tomorrow”, not only establishing a well oiled cashmachine, and changing Credit business models, but at the same time embarking on massive mindset changes, transforming a big organization from reactive to very proactive and into a highly efficient Credit organization.He is a strong believer in professional Credit Management driving excellence, supporting businesses in their growth strategies and creating added value. Jacques has received various CEO/ CFO Awards & Nominations for his successes in the Credit Management and Contract management processes. He is a frequent speaker on Credit Management topics at various conferences around the World.

Prof. Dr. Bernd Weiß

Prof Dr Bernd Weis studied business sciences and earned a doctorate in the faculty of finance and financial accounting at the University of Essen. After his academic qualification he led the Business Information Services at Creditreform Germany. Since 1997 he is Professor of Finance, Controlling and Credit Management at the University of Applied Sciences Bochum, Germany.

Prof. Weiß developed the concepts for the german qualification programmes "Certified Credit Manager" and "Certified Credit Controller". He is a member of the german Credit Management Association (BvCM) since the first hour. Until 2018 he was the independend director of the Creditreform Rating AG. In this role he had to Report to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), Paris. Besides the Topic Credit Management his main Focus is the research in the fields of credit rating, risk management an company diagnostic.

Hon. Christopher Fearne

Hon. Christopher Fearne was born in Attard, Malta on 12 March 1963.  In April 2016 he was appointed Minister for Health after holding the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Health since April 2014.  In June 2017 he was re-appointed Minister for Health following the general elections and in July 2017 he was elected Deputy Prime Minister following the Malta Labour Party’s extraordinary general council.  Prior to this, Hon. Fearne worked as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Clinical Chairman at Mater Dei Hospital. He is a Member of Parliament for the ruling Labour Party and was the Chairman of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee at the Maltese House of Representatives.

Hon. Fearne has worked as a doctor and surgeon for over 30 years.  He received his formal education at St. Aloysius College and at the University of Malta graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 1987, becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.  He worked and studied in a number of children’s hospitals in England, including the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.  He also lectures students of medicine at the University of Malta.

Hon. Fearne is married to Astrid.  They have 3 children, Dawn, Julian and Rafael.

Dr. Adrian Delia MP

Dr Adrian Delia a practising lawyer for 25 years had been heading the Litigation Team at Aequitas Legal. He started out as house counsel of the largest bank in Malta, now HSBC Bank Malta plc. After a couple of years he set-up a practice as a litigator and was recognised as one of the most tenacious and able professionals at the bar.

Dr Adrian Delia has unparalleled experience in public procurement matters representing briefs in front of the Public Contracts Appeals Board as well as in arbitration procedures which have amounted over the past five years to over half a billion Euros in tender value.

He has worked with clients both in finding amicable solutions in division of companies and businesses in construction and importation sectors and he assisted in litigations briefs in the same field. He is also involved in the merger and acquisition of negotiations in the hospitality, construction and service industries and he advised in the first company recovery procedure in Malta.

Dr Delia is a member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a founder member and legal advisor of the Maltese Turkish Business Council. Dr Delia was President of Birkirkara FC between 2015 and 2017.

Dr Delia was voted as PN leader on 17 September, co-opted as Member of Parliament on 3 October and sworn in as Leader of the Opposition on 6 October 2017.

Erwin Falkner

Erwin Falkner holds a Diploma in Business Law with a specialization in International Law from the University for Business and Management in Essen.

He is a native Austrian, owner and managing director of the collection company VYNTO GmbH &Co. KG in Germany and managing director of the collection service company DCG Portal B.V. in the Netherlands.

He has over 23 years of experience in leading companies and associations in the debt collection and credit industry. 

Falkner was elected to the FENCA Board in 2015 and became FENCA’s President in 2016.

Thomas Voller, Voller Rechtsanwälte, EuroCollectNet, Germany

Thomas was admitted as an attorney in 1982.His legal training includes time spent in the United States and England before setting up his own practice in 1987 in his home city of Frankfurt am Main,Germany. His law firm practises in both national and international commercial and corporate law.

Voller Rechtsanwälte represents domestic and foreign firms both in and out of court and in all areasof business law including international debt collection. He is authorized to represent clients in local,regional and higher regional German court.

Thomas is the founder of EuroCollectNet, an association of European lawyers offering a comprehensive cost-effective service for the collection of debt and related legal matter throughout Europe. In recent years the professional activity has been focused increasingly on the credit management of the clients. This includes on one side the membership in the Bundesverband Credit Management e.V. (BvCM ) and on the other side publications like “Outlines of Debt Collection inEurope” or “Compliance: Goods Dealer and Money Laundering”.

Thomas Voller

Samuel Pengel, Country Manager, Global, Atradius Crédito Y Cauciòn S.A, Milan, Italy

Samuel Pengel has been in international trade credit insurance for the past 37 years. He is currently the Country Manager Global Business Unit in Italy, managing a team responsible for business development with Italian multinationals and their world- wide subsidiaries, in addition to advising subsidiaries of foreign multinational groups in Italy.  

Samuel’s role involves face-to-face meetings with Atradius clients and intermediaries, designing insurance and reinsurance frameworks for multinational groups and he is a frequent speaker at seminars, trade sector meetings and business panels, worldwide. 

Samuel gained his experience whilst holding many roles within Atradius including Sr. Credit Risk Underwriter, Senior Account Manager, and Roll- out Manager for foreign branches in Germany, France, Italy and Japan, Legal & Fiscal Representative of Atradius in Italy. He is based in Milan, transferred from the Netherlands in 2000.
